On 11/13/08, The Namsick Family Wrote: "My extended family and I have been going to Cook Forest for over 30 years. We go the week of Thanksgiving and we stay in the rustic river cabins. My family started going after my great grandmother passed away and we have started so many traditions that we do each and every year. Cook Forest has become a part of our lives and I couldn't imagine spending Thanksgiving in Akron, Ohio, where I live. Some people call us crazy because we stay in these cabins with no hear, no running water and now no sinks during the coldest week of November. But we love each and every minute of it and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Cook Forest is our piece of heaven."

Cook Forest is classified as a National Natural Landmark by the National Park Service.

   
 
 

The 7,182-acre Cook Forest State Park lies in scenic northwestern Pennsylvania. Once called "The Black Forest," the area is famous for its stands of old growth forest. The "Forest Cathedral" of towering white pines and hemlocks is a Natural National Landmark. The Clarion River is the eastern border of the Park, and is popular for canoeing and rafting.

If you've never visited beautiful Western Pennsylvania, you're missing out on a wonderful experience! People from all over the world travel to Cook Forest, which is near the Allegheny National Forest, to experience breathtaking nature scenery, catch glimpses of the wildlife, hunt and fish, float down the river on canoes, cross-country ski, and spend time with friends and family.

State Park Adventures

Bordered by the beautiful Clarion River, the Cook Forest State Park is known for virgin white pine and hemlock timber stands. It's also known for its excellent fishing streams and ponds, plus hundreds of miles of hiking trails that wind their way through the forest, including the Baker trail, which runs from Pittsburgh to the Allegheny National Forest, and the Rachel Carson trail.
